Conceived in 2000 as an independent and international institution of the Valuation profession, The Centre for Advanced Property Economics was incorporated in August 2001 through the generous contributions of organizations and individuals who see the need for challenging the advanced practitioner, the seasoned academician, and the experienced user of Valuations and Economic Analysis.

The Centre provides opportunities for these individuals in research, in public forums, and in publication that address complex problems of valuation theory and technique. Each of the projects of the Centre address the practical benefits of advanced knowledge that exceeds traditional appraisal training and promotes the continuing evolution of the valuation profession. The Centre will additionally provide perspective on current events in industry, regulation and legislation.

Programs

The Centre recognizes that emerging areas of practice and competency can be built through the interdependence of valuation disciplines. The Centre is the locus for exploring the influences of economic theory, accounting practice, and capital markets. Consequently the Centre is emerging as an active partner of the valuation profession in cooperation with The International Valuation Standards Committee, the Appraisal Foundation, and the societies, institutes, and organizations that comprise the profession worldwide.

More importantly, the Centre for Advanced Property Economics has emerged as a conduit for the valuation profession to the thinking of the allied professions in economics, banking, law, and industry. In 2002, the Centre will begin offering opportunities for research and public discussion on emerging issues.

Current topics in research and publications being addressed by The Centre are:

  • Mark-to-Market Accounting
  • Financial Measurement
  • Environmental Liabilities
  • Asset Backed Securities Valuation
  • Intangible Asset Valuation
